It is hard to walk into a room designed by Jon Call and not be blown away by its ingenuity and impeccable style. Jon, of Mr Call Designs, is our next featured designer in our Designer Spotlight series, and we couldn’t be more delighted to feature his work. We love this quote about his work: ‘he winks, rather than nods, at the past.’

One of his projects in particular caught our eye because it embodies the concept of fusing different styles into a single interior. Speaking about this particular space, Jon told House Beautiful, ‘American design is a melting pot of styles. In this living room I’ve got a French mirror, Asian tables, midcentury lamps, and an English Regency sofa pulled to crazy-long proportions. It shouldn’t work but it does.’ We couldn’t agree more.

This charming Regency mahogany sofa table works perfectly with the sleek lines of the seating around it, and it needs nothing more than the simple floral arrangement and porcelain cups to make the vignette complete.

The gilded French mirror is a clear highlight in the room, but the restrained overall shape, accented by touches of decorative flourishes, make it the perfect accompaniment to the rest of the room’s pared-back design.

In the adjoining dining room, we love how Jon has taken modern cabinetry and mixed it with a vintage map and rosewood console desserte.

Finishing with the bedroom, it is the small, yet impactful, touches that make the room. This illuminated manuscript is framed in such a way that heightens its importance and also allows it to be the focal point on the modern chest of drawers.

And last but not least, the simple painting framed by the bedside contrasted with the large framed textile over the bed is the perfect example of small and large co-existing harmoniously side by side.
